Continental presents a new generation of piezo injectors for common-rail diesel

Piezo technology makes diesel engines efficient, clean and quiet. And Continental now has the answer to the increasing environmental demands being imposed on the diesel engine. At the 29th Vienna International Engine Symposium, the Powertrain Division presented a new piezo injector with direct drive and closed-loop needle control, opening the way for engine developers to further reduce consumption and emissions. As Wendelin Klügl, Senior Vice President, Powertrain System & Technology points out, "when considering the overall cost of engine production, the new injector offers further potential savings by simplifying other emissions-related components such as sensors and control algorithms". He added: "even vehicles in higher weight categories will now meet the Euro 6 emissions standard without nitrogen oxide aftertreatment."

The CRp-PC is designed to provide service workshops with an efficient and cost effective method of testing all makes common rail pumps in Hartridge "All Makes" mode. This stand alone bench is quick and simple to use.

Since its launch at Automechanika Frankfurt in September 2008, the CRp-PC has gone through weeks of various R&R tests (Repeatability & Reproducibility) as well as Pump & Auto Pressure Control correlation tests with the AVM2-PC. The test bench was recently presented to our UK customers during Trade Days at the Hartridge factory as well as at a CRp-PC launch in the Czech Republic, generating a lot of interest.

Gerrard Herring, General Manager at Hartridge Ltd said “This has proven to be an exiting new development. The CRp-PC was presented to our UK customers last week during UK Trade Days, and we received a lot of positive feedback. Despite the current uncertainty in the economic environment, we are certainly seeing encouraging signs of workshop owners wanting to invest in their businesses.”

The first batch of machines have all been sold and are currently going through their last series of tests before being shipped to their new owners, in the Czech Republic and the Netherlands.

The CRp-PC will be on display on the Delphi Stand at Autopromotec, in Italy from the 20th to the 24th May 2009.
